This basic life support class addresses rescue breathing and cardiac emergencies in caring for adults, children, and infants. All students will be trained in the use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), disposable gloves and CPR masks / breathing barriers. Other topics include the Chain of Survival, warning signs of heart attack, cardiac arrest, stroke, choking, how to treat these medical emergencies and accessing Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a 2 year certification card.
Students will learn how to use several different AED makes and models. We feel it is important that the students are exposed to several different AEDs. You never know which AED will be nearby when a medical emergency occurs. Currently there are 7 major manufacturers of AEDs including Cardiac Science, Defibtech, Heartsine, Medtronic Physio Control, Philips, Welch Allyn and Zoll.
An Automated External Defibrillator or AED is a portable, battery operated electronic device about the size of a laptop computer. The AED automatically diagnoses the potentially life threatening cardiac arrhythmias of ventricular fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia in a victim and is able to treat the patient by an electrical shock which stops the arrhythmia, allowing the heart to re-establish an effective rhythm. AEDs are designed to be simple so that anyone can use one. So simple that I often start my CPR AED classes by selecting someone from the class that has never seen an AED and I ask them to demonstrate how to use an AED by following the AEDs voice instructions. To date, the youngest person to effectively demonstrate the AED in one of my classes was only 9 years old.
Unlike other CPR AED classes The CPR School does not use subcontractors or temps. We only use full time, licensed and insured instructors that have real world emergency medical service CPR and AED experience. Another major difference, our classes are both informative and entertaining. We make the learning experience fun.
